The details

Following the same design concept as The ORIGINAL Worlds 1st INconel Alloy. It all starts with the What & Why. The process begins with the selection of a very special and bespoke T6 Alloy that has never been used in any instrument application to date until now. Let’s begin with the Alloy….. distinctive for its strength which is twice that of any comparable Heat Treated Aluminum alloys. This specific  Aluminum Alloy once selected then undergoes a unique Precipitation Age Hardening process prior to forming.

There is a small array of differentiated Aluminum Alloys and Heat Treatments to choose from, but only one T6 Alloy was sourced specifically for its distinctive sonic benefits.

The selection of The T6 Precipitation Age Hardened Aluminum began by selecting an alloy with a very unique aging process. The specific Aluminum alloy sourced introduces a Precipitation Age Hardening process forming small crystals that inhibit slip and creep issues at extremely elevated temperatures. This delivers an Aluminum Alloy with all the sought after sonic characteristics of classic Aluminum drum shells while creating an Aluminum Alloy with the strength of Steel. This process takes one of the Classic drum materials and further increases every aspect of its performance in Strength, Density, Corrosion & Temperature resistance. 

This specially selected ALUMINUM Alloy’s typical yield strength (73 KSI in the T6 condition) is comparable to many steel alloys giving this T6 Alloy a remarkably high strength-to-weight ratio. In fact, it's worth noting that its specific strength is comparable to that of 6A1-4V Grade 5 Titanium. However, due to this Alloy’s higher cost (3-4 times more expensive than that of alternative Aluminum Alloys) and limited availability, it has seen very little commercial use.

The T6 Precipitation Age hardening process

A special dispersion-strengthening heat treatment. By solution treatment, quenching and aging, a coherent precipitate forms that provides a substantial strengthening effect by impeding dislocation movement. This phenomenon is termed precipitation hardening or age hardening of The T6 Aluminum-Zinc-Magnesium-Copper Alloy (Al-Zn-Mg-Cu). It is one of the strongest commercially available alloys, with a strength comparable to many steels.

So what does it sound like?…... In comparison to INconel The T6 Aluminum is Dryer,

Warmer, but still with emphatic

punctuation. The T6 Precipitation Age Hardened Aluminum brings an unparalleled distinctive note and vibrance not found in industry standard “Aluminum”. Simply put, it stands in a league of its own.
